HMP Chelmsford Employer Celebration Event Demonstrates Commitment to Rehabilitation and Inclusion

We were incredibly proud to support and attend the HMP Chelmsford Employer Celebration event on 16th January, celebrating the amazing work being done by employers to support prison leavers in their journey back into employment.

Through collaboration with HMP Chelmsford and other key partners, Impellam Group is committed to breaking the cycle of reoffending by helping individuals to build brighter futures, gain new skills, and secure long-term jobs that lead to stability and independence.

Employment reduces reoffending

Employment plays a crucial role in the process of reducing reoffending, providing a stable foundation for individuals reintegrating into society after serving their sentences. Securing a job not only offers financial independence, but also instills a sense of purpose and responsibility, which are essential components for fostering a positive self-image and a productive lifestyle.

In addition, employment can diminish the stigma associated with a criminal record, as individuals demonstrate their commitment to rehabilitation and their ability to contribute meaningfully to the community. By addressing the root causes of criminal behavior, such as lack of skills and social isolation, employment serves as a pivotal element in breaking the cycle of reoffending and promoting long-term societal stability.

"Our collaboration with HMP Chelmsford and other institutions underscores our unwavering commitment to supporting prison leavers,” states Simon Blockley, Chief Executive Officer, Impellam UK & Europe.

“Employment is more than a job; it is a pathway to dignity, purpose, and a renewed sense of belonging. Together, we are not just filling positions, but transforming lives and fostering a safer, more inclusive society. We are so pleased to be here today to celebrate the work businesses and organisations are carrying out to contribute to this."

HMP Chelmsford is not the only prison Impellam has been working with. Hoa Ngo, Managing Director at Comensura is chair of the EAB for HMP and YOI Drake Hall, a progressive resettlement prison that promotes a culture of hope and aspiration to the women it serves, working with New Futures Network.

She says: “The work at Drake Hall is inspiring. Many former prisoners want to reintegrate into society, reconnect with family and friends, find new interests, and build a life. To do this successfully, they need jobs.

Employers like Halfords, Veolia, and DHL benefit from this motivated talent pool. With low unemployment and many job vacancies, encouraging these women offers businesses opportunities for growth.”
